This volume could not have been delivered on time without the skills and endless patience of Miss Jaswant Tessare and Mrs. Juliette Thomas (the last in a line of three perfect full-time secretaries in the Department of Microbiology). Juliette moved with us into the School of Biology in 1988. Her predecessors were Miss Barbara Parker (1964-88) and Mrs. Nia Paget (nee Phillips) (1983-88).
